Sheriff Involved Shooting

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has released information regarding the officer involved shooting that killed a Santa Barbara man. It happened on the morning of March 6th… Deputies responded to a call of a disturbance involving a man with a gun on the 4000 block of Via Gennita. 64 year old Donald George refused orders by deputies to put his weapon down on multiple occasions. According to the deputies involved, George was handling the gun as if he was about rack a round into the chamber. He then turned towards the deputies and pointed the gun directly at one of them. Deputies Joe Schmidt, Jarrett Morris and Jeremy Rogers fired their weapons in response. 11 rounds were fired. Deputies immediately started first aid on George and called for an ambulance. George later died at the hospital. All three of the Deputies are on paid administrative leave which is standard under these circumstances. The shooting is still under investigation.
