When a major holiday comes around, we always tell you about the CHP’s Maximum Enforcement Period… Well this year is the 60th anniversary of the added enforcement. There are six major holidays that the CHP has up to 80% of their officers on the roadways. The first CHP Commissioner, Clifford Peterson, created the MEP in 1948 after seeing the number of deaths on California roadways over the holidays. This weekend’s Maximum Enforcement Period begins tonight at 6 and continues through midnight on Monday. Officers will be looking for people who are speeding and driving under the influence. Also remember to click it or ticket. Statistics show that the number of fatalities have decreased dramatically since the MEP was created.
CHP Officers will be out in full force for the Labor Day Weekend. CHP will have a DUI Checkpoint set up in the Buellton area Saturday from 4:30 until 10:30 at night. SLO Police Officers will be doing the same tonight starting at 9 and will continue making sure drivers are sober until 3am. The locations for both checkpoints have not been released.
