Oil Spill Clean Up Underway in Nipomo

Nipomo, CA -- Work began in Nipomo yesterday to clean up an area where an oil pipe leaked years ago. ConocoPhillips is working on the project in the Nipomo Creek near Dana Adobe. The pipe is currently owned by the company. When the pipe first leaked another company owned it, however, ConocoPhillips assumed all responsibility for the property when it was purchased. A spokesperson says there's a material in the soil below the creek bottom that needs to be cleared up in case of erosion and exposure of the crude. The work is expected to take about eight weeks.
