Man Attempts To Burn Virgin Mary Statue At Church



San Luis Obispo, CA -- SLO Police Officers responded to the report of a vandalism that occurred at the SLO Mission Church on November 15. It was discovered that the suspect entered the church and forcefully removed paintings from the wall, damaging them. The suspect also attempted to set a fire to the base a Virgin Mary statue.  

The suspect, Daniel Pettigrew, a transient, was located and contacted in the area and was found to be responsible for the crimes. The damaged paintings are of significant historical value to the church; however, a financial loss has not been determined at this time.

Pettigrew was booked into County Jail on felony vandalism of a church and arson. Bail was set at $250,000.
