Major Oil Spill Closes Down Highway

That collision that involved an overturned oil tanker that Officer Craig Rude told us about yesterday morning closed down Highway 46 for nine hours. According to The Tribune, Jose Garcia Junior of Lamont attempted to make an illegal u-turn near Bitterwater Road when the oil tanker jackknifed. Jesus Garcia of Bakersfield couldn’t see the truck because it was so dark and slammed into the side of the tank. The collision happened at 5:15am, closing the road down until 2:30pm. Crews had to clean up 1,800 gallons of oil that spilled all over the roadway and onto the dirt shoulder. Jose Garcia Junior was ticketed for making an illegal u-turn. |
