Hundreds Arrested in Isla Vista Over the Halloween Weekend
|
More than 40,000 people crowded the streets of Isla Visa over Halloween weekend, which definitely kept deputies busy. They made almost 250 arrests and issued 550 citations, most of which were alcohol related. Both numbers are up from last year. 55 people were transported to the hospital, many for alcohol poisoning. Two people also fell off of a cliff on Friday night. One of them was injured.
As part of a county-wide crackdown on drunk driving, officers in Goleta held a sobriety checkpoint over the weekend. Out of the 35 drivers who were stopped, officers arrested six of them for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Eight cars were towed, four minors were cited for having alcohol, two were busted for having an open container and one person was arrested for having illegal drugs. The Santa Barbara County anti-DUI organization, Avoid the 12 (who sponsored the extra patrol cars this weekend), will be out on the roads again starting December 12th, for the holiday season.
