Highway 1 Remains Closed Due to Fires

Highway 1 remains closed south of Big Sur due to the Basin Complex Fire. The closure began last Saturday afternoon. Both directions of the highway are closed for 19 miles. Highway 1 is closed from the south at Big Creek Bridge, and from the north atthe Nepenthe South Entrance. Take alternate routes like Highway 101 to the 68 or the 46 if you plan to travel north. Many local businesses remain open, but call ahead to make sure. CalTrans does not know when the road will be re-opened.
