Highway 1 Closure Extended to 31 Miles

Basin Complex Fire continues to grow, closing down even more of Highway 1 in the Big Sur area. The closure began last Saturday afternoon and is now closed in both directions for 31 miles. Highway 1 is closed from the south at the town of Lucia, and from the north at the Point Sur Naval Facility. Take alternate routes like Highway 101 to the 68 or the 46 if you plan to travel north. Many local businesses remain open, but call ahead to make sure. CalTrans has highway crews assisting firefighters and CHP Officers in the area. No one knows when the highway will be re-opened. |
