Grand Jury Investigates Animal Shelter
|
|
The county grand jury has released a report on the county animal shelter, but says its findings are incomplete because it was denied access to certain meetings held by the shelter and its staff. The jury was investigating the shelter following numerous citizens’ complaints about how the facility was run. While the jury applauded the formation of an ad hoc group to address the problems at the shelter, it was frustrated because the group refused to share pertinent and relevant information with the jury. The jury says the restrictions limited its ability to fully address the problems of the shelter. The jury recommended it be allowed further access by the board of supervisors and not be viewed as an adversary. Some of the complaints the jury was looking into was animal neglect, animal abuse, personnel issues and a lack of standard operating procedures. |
