Governor Signs Bills for Victim Privacy Protection
Governor Schwarzenegger signed four bills that are supposed to increase privacy protection of crime victims. One of the bills will increase the penalties for violating restraining orders and another allows public safety officials to inform a victim within a 24 hour period that a restraining order has been issued. Assemblymember Pedro Nava is working to make sure that those who testify in civil sexual violent predator cases have their identity protected. The last bill that the Governor signed yesterday intends to give victims of juvenile offenders the same rights when it comes to accessing information. Last month, Governor Schwarzenegger declared the April 13th through the 19th Crime Victim’s Rights Week.
