Santa Maria, CA -- A structure fire in Santa Maria has injured a woman and killed a man, both residents of a home on Dominion Road. The fire occurred on December 6 at three in the morning.Upon arrival to the scene, the residence was approximately 50% involved in fire. Two civilians were in the residence at the time of the fire.
A 65 year old female was burned but was able to escape the residence and call for help. The woman sustained significant burn injuries and was initially transported to Marion Medical Center. She has since been transferred to the Sherman Oaks Burn Center. The second civilian in the residence was a 70 year old male who was still unaccounted for when firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly began a primary search of the structure in an attempt to locate him. Unfortunately, the man was a fatality of the fire.
The Coroner’s Office was on scene of the incident, and next of kin has been notified.
One firefighter fell through the roof and sustained moderate injuries while fighting the fire. He was transported to Marion Medical Center.
After a joint investigation by the Arson Task Force that included assistance from Santa Barbara City and Vandenberg Fire Departments, it has been determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and most likely related to the fireplace.
