UCSB economic forecaster Bill Watkins has some dire news for Atascadero. Retail sales in that community are down, to a point where he’s calling it a crisis. Watkins predicted in a seminar before local businessmen yesterday that the slowdown will affect residents who may experience reduced incomes and standard of living. Watkins said his research showed 2007 sales declining in all sectors of retail across the board.
