Unit 2 at Diablo Canyon’s Nuclear Power Plant is back up and running after the fire that destroyed one of three main transformers at the plant. The fire happened on August 17th and made many people concerned. According to PG&E, they conducted an in-depth analysis as to what caused the fire. The results show that the problem occurred with an electrical connection between the transformer and the high-voltage transmission lines. When that sparked the fire, the outer ceramic surface disintegrated and the hot oil caused an explosive fire. The damaged transformer was replaced and service resumed at 4am Saturday.
