Crane Accident in San Luis Obispo Sends Local Man to Hospital

A local football team used their teamwork to help a man after a crane accident. It was about 5:20 when the San Luis Obispo Police Department along with the Fire Department were sent to the scene of an injury collision on the 600 block of Palm Street. Sergeant Jeff Booth told KVEC what happened near yesterday afternoon, “A crane was working on this school [Mission Prep High School]. They had completed their work for the day. They were securing the crane, and the crane rolled backwards down the hill, jack-knifed and entered the sidewalk, then the football field of the school.” That wasn’t the end of it though… The big rig also hit two palm trees and a fire hydrant. The crane operator, 66 year old Eric Holloway of Santa Maria, jumped from the crane. One palm tree landed onto two parked cars, and the other landed on Holloway. Several co-workers tried to lift the 30’ palm tree off of Holloway’s legs but didn’t have any success. The Mission Prep Football Team was having practice at the time of the incident and worked together to help free Holloway’s legs. He was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment. |
