Linens N’ Things and Mervyn’s are in the process of liquidating what they have left, and now Circuit City can be added to the list of stores that have been hit hard by the economy. Circuit City Incorporated announced Monday that it will be closing about 20% of its U.S. locations, including the Santa Maria and Santa Barbara stores. The San Luis Obispo location will remain open, along with more than 500 other stores. More than 7,300 people are expected to be out of their jobs. Circuit City’s history began in 1949 as Richmond, Virginia’s first television store.
