Chemical Spill at Local Business Made Employees Sick
|
|
An early morning chemical spill at a business had a few employees feeling a little sick. Around 4am Monday, about 3 gallons of formalin was accidentally spilled in the lab at Central Coast Pathology on South Higuera. Formalin is a mixture of formaldehyde, methanol and water which can cause headaches and irration to the eyes, nose, throat and skin. Formaldehyde in high doses may cause cancer and can be fatal. Three workers complained of headaches and respiratory irritation. Two of them were medically evaluated and were released. The third person didn’t want to be checked out. The San Luis Obispo City Fire Department and the County’s Environmental Health Services assessed the cleanup and allowed people to get back into the building at 2 o’clock that afternoon. |
