CalTrans Worried About The Impact of Delayed Funding on the State's Economy

The Federal Highway Administration won’t be handing over money from the Highway Trust Fund just yet… The FHA announced that effective today, they will be delaying financial reimbursements to all states. Cal Trans Director Will Kemptom released a statement saying that the latest announcement from the FHA only “aggravates an already tight budget problem for California’s transportation program.” Kempton wrote a letter back in July emphasizing the need to resolve this issue as early as possible. Since the problem still exists, he says that the delay will only cause transportation projects to be postponed or cancelled, causing a ripple effect that will impact the state’s economy through loss of revenues and increased unemployment. CalTrans is working with Federal Transportation Officials to figure out funding until the Highway Trust Fund comes through. |
