Beware of Internet Housing Scams
|
|
Another craigslist scam has tricked some Central Coast residents out of thousands of dollars. The latest victim was a 19 year old Cal Poly student who was looking for a roommate. Someone responded to her ad and claimed to be a person from the UK interested in subletting the room. The suspect mailed a cashier’s check, then asked the victim to transfer several thousand dollars to help cover travel expenses. When the Cal Poly student went to deposit the cashier’s check, she discovered that the check was fraudulent. The victim is responsible for the loss. SLO Police remind everyone in the community to be aware of scams like this and if it happens to you, to notify local police immediately. |
