Pacific Gas and Electric will soon be paying San Luis Obispo County roughly 23.8 million dollars. The money is part of an agreement to help offset the economic impact of decommissioning the Diablo Canyon Nuclear power plant. About 9.6 million is intended for San Luis Obispo County and surrounding communities economic development. The remaining funds will be spread out among 70 public agencies. By the time PG&E closes Diablo in 2025, the energy company will have paid San Luis Obispo County 85 million dollars in economic mitigation funds.
