17-Year-Old Arrested After Morro Bay Bank Robbery

Morro Bay, CA — Wednesday at about 4:23 p.m., Morro Bay Police received a 911 call from an employee at Founders Bank, 310 Morro Bay Blvd. reporting an armed robbery.  According to the employee, a male suspect wearing a hooded jacket and covering his face with a black bandana entered the bank holding what appeared to be a handgun tucked in the front of his waistline. The suspect demanded money and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Morro Bay Police responded to the area and began a coordinated search.  Acting on the description provided, officers located a suspect matching that description driving a vehicle northbound on the highway.  Officers made a stop on the suspect vehicle and were able to take a 17-year-old male juvenile, a resident of Cayucos, into custody without incident.  A loaded handgun was located in the vehicle, along with the stolen currency from the bank.

Based on evidence retrieved from the vehicle, and the ongoing investigation, Morro Bay Police believe that this suspect is also primarily responsible for the previous robberies of the cigarette store and liquor store that occurred in Morro Bay on October 23rd and November 2nd.  The male juvenile was booked into San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Justice Center on the charge of robbery and is awaiting arraignment.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and Morro Bay Police have not ruled out the possibility of a second suspect involved in the commission of these robberies.  San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction for this crime.  Citizens with any information about these crimes are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP or the Morro Bay Police Department at 772-6225 immediately.
